Tony leverages his 30+ years of experience of creating, developing and maintaining software systems to establish effective and beneficial technology solutions for business.
While attending UCSD Tony worked as a college student intern in aerospace engineering and created database systems to store and manage production data from the floors. Tony was also active in extracurricular activities where again he used his data management skills to computerize data for various student organizations and activities. He also had a software development business where he provided unique and novel software solutions to clients in aerospace, real estate, RV sales and other small businesses.
Early in his professional career Tony worked in the biotech and pharma industry as a Scientific Software Engineer in the pursuit of Rational Drug Design. Working with an intelligent and creative team of scientists and engineers Tony used early AI strategies to perform digital chemistry and predict protein-ligand binding in order to model potential drug candidates. Tony's pioneering work in writing software to minimize hydrogen positions of crystallographic structures proved to be foundational in all chemical and binding computations and as such Tony co-authored many scientific papers produced by his team.
Tony has also worked in clinical Epidemiology, Infection Control and Supply Chain in a San Diego health system. He brought technology to old antiquated and manual systems by centralizing data and providing data-driven software to manage process flows and analysis. Reports were automated and the times to produce reports were reduced from hours and days down to minutes. Data warehousing ETL times were reduced from hours to minutes. Tony owned and maintained a custom enterprise wide software tool which augmented the Lawson system to empower staff to streamline supply usage and make better financial decisions, the results of which became the envy of the industry. Tony interfaced with stakeholders throughout the health system to learn their pain points, effect solutions and train them in their use.
Tony has also worked in the finance and lending industry. Tony was brought in to a San Diego lending company as their first technical hire. He was charged with overseeing third party off-shore development of its flagship Loan Management System in the AWS cloud and to bring technology in house. Tony interfaced with in-house stakeholders and executives to establish vision, road maps and technological goals and with vendors, contractors and other personnel to implement them. Cybersecurity of applications and access to data was always a top concern.
Tony scrutinized and evaluated vendor claims allowing the company to maximize benefit and avoid pitfalls which saved 10s or 100s of $1,000 annually. Disparate data from various sources was transformed and warehoused for ease of access and dashboards were built to visualize data trends and the health state of the systems. Tony oversaw the automated production of updated documentation via the CI/CD process for the code and end product.
Technology teams were hired to monitor DevOps processes, administer databases, write software and analyze data with AI and business analytics. Tony mentored and guided all these people to grow and mature in their respective tasks which enabled grass roots creativity and a sense of pride and ownership.
